MUSCAT: The Women’s Committee of the Oman Football Association (OFA) organised a two-day event in the Governorate of Musandam to celebrate the historic hosting of the prestigious His Majesty’s Cup Football Championship in Khasab for the first time on Friday.
The event, which began on Thursday, aimed to foster a culture of football among women and promote their involvement in sports.
A women’s football festival was held at the Khasab Sports Complex, attracting 200 children below the age of ten. The festival, graced by the presence of Nabilah Abdullah Al Shehi, General Manager of the Directorate General of Sports in the Governorate of Musandam, featured players from Al Nahda and Dhofar clubs, who demonstrated their skills to inspire the young girls.
Lujaina Mohsin Haider Darwish, Chairwoman of the OFA Women’s Committee, along with committee members, engaged with women from the Omani Women’s Association in the Governorate of Musandam.
The meeting focused on establishing partnerships to support the women’s football sector systematically within the governorate.
In her address, Lujaina urged young girls to embrace football as a sport, emphasising the OFA’s commitment to gender equality. She stressed the importance of fostering real partnerships and communication channels to empower girls in the governorate to participate in football at competitive levels.
