Thousands of invasive birds eliminated across Oman under national campaign

Muscat: More than 923,000 invasive birds were eliminated until May 6,2024 by the national campaign to combat invasive birds.

The Main Committee for Combating Invasive Birds discussed the latest developments in the campaign in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, and the sustainability plan for the coming period, headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority , at the General Office of the Environment Authority.

 The number of invasive birds that were combated from the launch of the campaign in December 2022 until May 6, 2024 reached about 923,000 invasive birds. 559,453 invasive birds were combated in North Al Batinah Governorate.

 In the South Al Batinah Governorate, 188,333 invasive birds have been controlled since January 2024. In the Dhofar Governorate, 126,659 invasive birds have been eliminated, through the involvement of a number of members of the local community in the governorates in teams and subcommittees.

 In Muscat Governorate, 48,634 invasive birds were controlled, in cooperation with various government sectors, by applying mechanisms that have proven effective to combat this type of bird in the targeted governorates.

 The committee explained that measuring the environmental impact resulting from the control campaign is a positive reflection on delivering the campaign’s awareness message and making the Omani citizen an active member in reducing the spread of these birds.
