Eye test at licensed opticians in Oman for driving licence

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has announced a change to driving licence procedure.
According to a statement issued by the ROP’s official Twitter account, “As of next October, the eye test required to obtain and renew driving licences can be taken at licensed opticians across all governorates of the Sultanate.”
In March, a number of other changes were introduced to driving licences such as expats having to renew their driving licences every two years and the issuance of a temporary driving licence for new drivers for 12 months under a probation scheme. Temporary driving licences will be extended by one year against any new driver who clocks up more than seven black points in a year, according to the new traffic law.
However, good drivers with clean sheets will get a full 10-year driving licence if they don’t exceed six black points during their temporary driving licence period.
According to the ROP website, the requirements for a light driver’s licence include an eye and blood test and a passport copy. In addition the applicant must be 18 years old.
Additionally, a tourist is allowed to use his or her country’s driving licence or an international driving licence for a period of three months.
