Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will celebrate on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 the International Day of Education, which falls on January 24th of every year.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education, will participate with the countries of the world in celebrating World Education Day, which falls on the 24th of January annually, in appreciation of the role of education in achieving sustainable development goals, promoting peace and respect for human rights, contributing to the eradication of poverty and hunger, and enhancing the capabilities of individuals to tolerate, avoid conflicts, and find solutions to manage them.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik has stressed since he assumed the reins of power in the country that “paying attention to the education sector of all types and levels and providing a supportive and stimulating environment for scientific research and innovation will be at the top of our national priorities, and we will provide it with all the reasons for empowerment as it is the basis through which our children will be able to Contributing to building the requirements for the next stage.”
Since the beginning of its renaissance, the Sultanate of Oman has worked to instill the values of tolerance and peace among students, and the Ministry of Education continues to follow this national approach from the “Oman Vision 2040” , and includes these concepts and values in educational policies and documents such as the Education Philosophy Document, the General Concepts and Curricula Document, and the Attention Common humanitarian issues and global citizenship.
The Ministry issued several special documents, such as the Citizenship Education Document, the Document for Integrating Child Rights Concepts into School Curricula, and other policies supporting the spread of peace and tolerance through education.
The sixth International Day of Education will be celebrated on 24 January 2024 under the theme “Education for lasting Peace”, in celebration of the role that education plays in achieving peace and development, and in achieving the basic tasks that UNESCO works on. The 1974 United Nations Document on Education for International Understanding, Cooperation and Peace and Education in the Field of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms Member States considered education an essential driver of international peace and understanding.
Celebrating this day highlights the important role of education in confronting global challenges and achieving sustainable development goals, which makes it a priority for governments and international organizations to build a world of peace and progress due to its importance and vital role in building advanced, safe, and sustainable societies.
