Muscat: The Council of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) has approved a draft regulation of consultations at the university, the academic system for postgraduate studies and topics related to UATS workflow.
The regulations were approved during the first meeting of UATS Council for the current academic year (2023), held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, Chairman of UTAS Council.
The Council reviewed a follow-up report on the implementation of draft organisational regulations for the university’s system, pending endorsement of the same by competent authorities.
The Council also looked into the progress made in the establishment of UTAS branch in Musandam ahead of its opening in the second semester of academic year 2023-2024, the time the branch will receive 150 students.
The Council approved a draft bylaw for regulating consultation services. The bylaw was the outcome of efforts made by specialised committees and working teams.
The Council also approved the academic system for postgraduate studies at the university, which will implement a diverse set of programmes in a gradual manner, in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework.
The Council endorsed steps to award degrees to as many as 2,196 students who successfully completed graduation requirements for the summer semester and those who completed the spring semester for the academic year 2022/2023 at UTAS.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council stressed the need to maintain the university’s role in providing students with values, scholarly knowledge and skills to help them join the labour market and contest all areas of competence in modern life.
