Muscat: The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has announced that some Omani coins will go out of circulation soon, as per legal tender.
This move comes in accordance with the Central Bank of Oman's decision issued by the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman by Decree No. 3/19/4/184/3019 dated 24/4/2019. According to CBO, the cancelled coins include half a rial, quarter of a rial and one hundred baisa.
It should be noted that only the 100 baisa coin will be cancelled and the use of the 100 baisa note will remain unaffected.
CBO said that these coins will go out of circulation a year after May 20.
It will then become an illegal and non-negotiable currency.
The Central Bank pointed out that those who have the aforementioned coins should replace them through the local commercial banks in the Sultanate before the validity of the coins expire.
