OETC organises ‘5-Year Annual Transmission Capability Statement’ awareness session

Muscat: As part of its efforts to involve the community in the various updates and developments in its operations and plans, recently, the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) organised an awareness session on “5-Year Annual Transmission Capability Statement”.

This statement is issued by the company every 5 years after obtaining the required approvals from the Authority of Public Services Regulation.

The awareness session was conducted on the Microsoft Teams platform and attended by students from various related specialisations including Sultan Qaboos University, University of Technology and Applied Sciences, A’ Sharqiya University, Sohar University, University of Nizwa, Dhofar University, Muscat University, Arab Open University, and National University of Science and Technology.

The workshop aims to update the participants about the developments within OETC and the sector. Additionally, it aims to introduce the students to the company’s and sector’s operations, projects and plans to equip them with the required knowledge and increase their competency to work in the field.

This awareness session comes as part of OETC’s efforts to increase awareness and knowledge about the transmission capability statement amongst community. This is done to introduce everyone to the company’s strategic plans and objectives to build up a 400kV electricity infrastructure, increasing the electricity’s grid reliability across the Sultanate of Oman.

The OETC’s 5-year plans for developing the Oman’s electricity grid through the high voltages including 400kV, 220kV and 132kV were showcased during the session.

Furthermore, the team discussed the electricity transmission’s systems that are connected to the main grid including the north of Oman, along with the electricity grid in Musandam and Dhofar governorates. The session also provided an insight into the most important projects and electricity connection demands, especially those coming from the renewable energy generation stations in Manah and Duqm. The Planning and Design team explained the futuristic projects which will be executed in the upcoming years to enhance and empower the electricity grid sustainability and consistency responding to the rapid developments in all sectors in the Sultanate.

It is worth mentioning that OETC, member of Nama Group is the only company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity in the Sultanate’s network, where electricity is transferred from production stations to distributed load centers in all governorates of the Sultanate, and the transmission network operates at a voltage of 132 kV and above, to cover most of the governorates of the Sultanate, whether in the north or in the south.

In addition, OETC manages the interconnection lines between the Sultanate and the Gulf interconnection network with a voltage of 220 kV.
