Muscat: A specialised medical team from Khoula Hospital, in cooperation with the Orthopedic Surgery Department at Nizwa Hospital in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, succeeded in performing surgical intervention for an injured person who had been involved in a traffic accident that led to complex fractures in the spine and a rupture in the spinal cord.
Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al-Kalbani, head of the spine unit at Khoula Hospital and head of the medical team, told Oman News Agency that the condition of the injured person required a 5-hour surgical operation by a specialised team from Khoula Hospital, during which the patient’s complex fractures were stabilised and treated. The operation was a success as the patient's health was stabilised.
The therapeutic response was attended by a specialised medical team from the Orthopedic Department of Khoula Hospital and the Orthopedic Department of Nizwa Hospital. This comes in furtherance of the decentralisation policy implemented by the Ministry of Health.
The health system in the Sultanate of Oman aims to ensure the provision of comprehensive, integrated health care to all residents in a fair and accessible manner, in response to the urgent need to provide services that a citizen needs, whether in Muscat Governorate or the various Governorates, through medical teams responding to the call of duty for cases in need of urgent intervention.
