Muscat: A fine of OMR 100 each has been imposed against two commercial establishments for violating the Consumer Protection Law in the Wilayat of Rustaq, South Al Batinah Governorate.
The Court of First Instance in the Wilayat of Rustaq issued two rulings against two commercial establishments for violating the Consumer Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. (66/2014). The court ordered the two institutions to pay fines.
The history of the case is that two consumers agreed with two commercial establishments working in the furniture industry to manufacture wooden doors and chairs for homes. It was agreed to complete the work according to the period specified in the contract concluded between them. The two establishments lagged behind and delayedthe work and did not abide by the contract terms. The two establishments failed to provide the service properly.
The two consumers submitted their complaints to the Consumer Protection Department, which carried out the necessary investigations and then transferred the complaint file to the competent court.
The court convicted the first establishment of a misdemeanor for not complying with providing the service properly and in accordance with its nature. The Court punished each of them with a fine of OMR 100, with an order to stop the execution of the penalty if the work was handed over to the consumer or he waived it within two months from the date of judgment.
The Court convicted the second establishment of a misdemeanour of failing to provide the service properly and not guaranteeing it within a period of time commensurate with its nature.
The Court ordered a fine of OMR 100 for each of them and obligated them jointly to refund an OMR 1,157 to the consumers. It ordered the accused to pay legal expenses.
