Muscat: The rehabilitation project of the Al Juma Market has begun in the Wilayat of Sohar to facilitate continuous display of local products and works during bad weather conditions, said the Municipality of North Al Batinah Governorate.

North Al Batinah Municipality has started a project to rehabilitate the Al Juma Market in the Wilayat of Sohar, where the capacity of the market will be raised, which will contribute to facilitating the process of displaying local products, and increasing the size of facilities that help reduce overcrowding. In addition to contributing to facilitating access and continuity of work in the market during rains and valleys.

Engineer Sulaiman bin Hamad Al Sunaidi, Director General of North Al Batinah Municipality, confirmed that the implementation of the market rehabilitation project came to diversify the markets and ensure the continuity of the existing markets, which are an economic tributary for the society.

 In terms of market design, the total number of parking lots is (178), and the area of umbrellas is about (2,276) square meters, and a road is paved with a length of (1,655) meters. The total area of asphalt, it reaches (17,260) square meters, and a channel was opened to drain rainwater with a length of (1050) metres.

Al Sunaidi stressed that the rehabilitation of the market will contribute to revitalising the commercial and economic movement in the wilayat in particular and the governorate in general, as local commodities are provided to consumers in such traditional markets that many people from the governorate and outside flock to.

The market is located in the centre of Sohar, near the historic Sohar Fort and the rest of the public markets in the wilayat. It is one of the markets with a historical dimension to the wilayat , in addition to the importance of the market in displaying local products of various kinds over many years.
