August full moons 2023: Check when to watch in Oman

Muscat : The month of August 2023 will witness a double phenomenon, represented by the appearance of two full moons larger than usual within a month.

The Moon will be at its closest point to Earth on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 and again on August 31 in its elliptical orbit around our planet.

Both full moons will appear approximately in the same size. The double spectacle is possible because the cycle between two full moons is 29.5 days, but the month of August is 31 days.

There are rarely two full moons in a single calendar month, and it won't happen again until May 2026.

For the two full moons in August, the distance between the Earth and the Moon will be about 357,000 km. The average distance between Earth and the moon in its orbit is about 380,000 km.
