Muscat: A plan to raise the visibility of Omani handicrafts products at the shops in the Muttrah Souq is being worked out.
Under the plan, an initiative of the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI), a specific percentage of display space will be allocated to Omani products in the heritage souq’s antique and souvenir shops.
A team has been formed to consider a mechanism for the space allocation. Rashad bin Ahmed Al Hinai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports Affairs who is member of the Board of the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI) chairs the team.
A number of establishments and departments including the Royal Oman Police (ROP), Ministry of Tourism, Muscat Municipality, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Municipal Council of Muscat Governorate and Office of Muscat Governor have representatives on the team.
The team would meet Muttrah Souq vendors and shop owners and hold discussions with them to finalise the allocation of a percentage of their shelf space to Omani craft products.
