Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the United Nations (UN) Counter-Terrorism Week in the United States of America (USA), Oman News Agency (ONA), said.
A statement issued online by ONA said: ”The Sultanate of Oman participated with the countries of the world in the activities of the Third United Nations Week to Combat Terrorism, which is being held at the headquarters of the UN in New York from 19 to 23 June, 2023”
The delegation was headed by HE Ambassador Dr. Mohammed bin Awad Al Hassan, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations.
The activities began with the work of the third high-level conference of heads of agencies and bodies responsible for combating terrorism, entitled: "Dealing with terrorism through active multilateralism and institutional cooperation," with wide international participation.
For his part, His Excellency Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, stressed that terrorism affects every region in the world, and feeds on weaknesses and instability of political, security and economic systems.
He explained that the week of combating terrorism is an opportunity to build on the progress achieved so far, pointing to the need to focus on strengthening the main tool in counter-terrorism efforts, which is the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Additionally, Guterres said that the United Nations, through the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact, provides practical and coordinated support to member states, and helps countries implement the aforementioned Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
The third Counter-Terrorism week also witnesses several side events that focus on initiatives related to the pillars of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
