Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority has seized more than 10,000 banned commodities in North Al Batinah Governorate.

The General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate, represented by the Consumer Services and Market Control Department has identified an establishment in the Wilayat of Suwaiq selling medical creams only dispensed with a medical prescription.

It also found some prohibited items that do not comply with specifications, standards, and safety requirements as they contain prohibited substances that pose a threat to the health and safety of consumers.

During inspection visits carried out by the Law Enforcement Officers within the prohibited goods campaign (Awareness Saves You) 2023 to shops and commercial centres in the governorate’s markets to spread legal awareness and follow up on the implementation of the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations, and the decisions issued in this regard, they identified a commercial establishment selling medical creams that are only dispensed with a medical prescription.

The Law Enforcement Officers inspected the shop's warehouse, which contained more than 10,000 banned items, in preparation for selling them. The total number of items seized was 10,432 items. The owner of the establishment stated that he did not know that these commodities are prohibited.

The practice is considered a violation of laws and regulations and consumers' rights. The items were seized, and legal measures are underway.

The Consumer Protection Authority urges all traders to have legal, legislative, and regulatory awareness, constantly communicate with CPA and to be aware of all new regulatory decisions in the markets.

They must also ensure that commodities conform to the specifications, standards, and decisions issued by the relevant authorities, and to withdraw any that do not from the market or prevent their circulation.

They must also avoid being legally accountable for trading in banned goods.

The CPA stresses that it will spare no effort in following up and monitoring the markets, controlling everything that would harm the health and safety of consumers and taking legal measures against violators.

CPA also encourages individuals to report any abuses they might notice through their various communication channels.
