Electoral campaigns for Shura Council membership begin in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Interior announced yesterday, Friday, the end of the period for submitting objections to the names included in the preliminary lists of candidates for membership of the Shura Council for the tenth term. The list included more than 883 candidates, including 33 women.

The list witnessed an increase in the number of candidates for the tenth term by about 116 candidates, compared to the number of candidates for the ninth term, with 767 candidates. The number of women decreased by about 10 candidates, bringing their number in the tenth elections to 33 candidates, compared to 43 for the ninth term.

The Ministry stated that it is permissible for any interested person to object to the names mentioned in an application submitted through the elections website, within (5) days from the date of their announcement, stating the reasons for the objection, and attaching supporting documents for them. The verdict on the application will be decided within (10) days from the day following the expiry of the application period.
