Muscat: Oman Meteorology has issued a new alert of heavy rains in the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North and South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Muscat, Al Sharqiyah North and Dhofar Governorate.

In the alert, Oman Meteorology indicated that heavy rains are expected in the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North and South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Muscat and North Al Sharqiyah, and on the coasts, mountains and desert of Dhofar today, Sunday May 21, 2023.

Oman Meteorology stated that forecasts indicate thunderstorms (15-25) mm, leading to runoff of reefs and valleys.

It added that there will be a decrease in the level of horizontal visibility due to rising dust and precipitation, in addition to the activity of downwinds (30-50) knots.

Oman Meteorology called on everyone to stay away from low places and valley streams and not to try to swim in them or risk crossing them in order to preserve oneself. It also called for children to not to be left alone when it rains and to prevent them from approaching water ponds and valley streams.

It is noteworthy that this alert comes in light of the Sultanate of Oman being affected by a western depression, whose effects are expected to continue until today, Sunday.
