Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will witness an air groove of depression that starts tomorrow, Friday, and is expected to continue until Tuesday next week, an official from Oman Meteorology said.

Speaking exclusively to Times of Oman, an official from the Oman Meteorology confirmed that the Sultanate’s skies will be affected by a depression, and there is a chance for its effects to be felt starting at noon tomorrow, Friday, May 19, and will continue until next Tuesday, 23, 2023.

The official also confirmed that the effects may start tomorrow along Al Hajar Mountain Range and the governorates of South and North Al Batinah, South Al Sharqiyah and Al Dakhiliyah, with chances of rain in the governorates of North Al Sharqiyah and Dhofar Governorate.

Additionally, the official from Oman Meteorology pointed out that the effects of the groove will be more comprehensive on Saturday, May 20, 2023 on Al Hajar Mountain Range and its adjacent areas, extending from the Governorates of South and North of Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Sharqiyah, and Dhofar Governorate.

The official also indicated that these depressions are not normal, as they are among the winter depressions that occur in the month of May, and are usually in the Arabian Sea.

Oman Meteorology indicated that there are chances today for local formations on the Hajar Mountains, leading to rain in the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah.

As for temperatures, the meteorologists said that they are still high, but there are indications for a decrease in temperature, leading to cooler periods in the evenings on the Hajar Mountains.

Currently, the activity of cumulus clouds and scattered thunderstorms falls on parts of the governorates of North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah.
