His Excellency Dr. Hilal Al-Sabti, the Minister of Health.
Muscat: Doctors have been referred to the Public Prosecution, and the Ministry of Health is following up on doctors in the private and government sectors, His Excellency the Minister of Health, said.
His Excellency Dr. Hilal Al-Sabti, the Minister of Health, during the discussion of the Ministry's statement in the Shura Council, spoke about a number of topics, including doctors who were referred to the Public Prosecution office, sudden deaths, and the Ministry's efforts regarding addiction.
His Excellency explained during the session that doctors were referred to the Public Prosecution Office, and some of them had their work permits suspended. An Arab female doctor was also suspended from work, in order to ensure equal provision of qualified services in both sectors.
With regard to sudden deaths, His Excellency said that a study was conducted in the Sultanate of Oman, and the results showed that they do not exceed the global average, indicating: ”There is a lack of knowledge of the causes of deaths, due to the societal acceptance of autopsy, unlike Western society that performs autopsies and determines the cause of death.”
On the other hand, His Excellency stressed that the National Committee for Combating Drugs and Addiction is making great efforts from a health and psychological viewpoint, and that there is competition between centres in the private sector, adding: ”If we see that competition is not feasible, we will turn to government employment.”
His Excellency pointed to the existence of a recovery centre in the Wilayat of Al Amerat, explaining that some families and some leading psychiatrists will be allocated to follow up on this category, stressing that the Ministry will work to combat addiction in all aspects, whether in combating or preventing it, and that there are many stages to combat addiction.
