Over 30 expats arrested, 7 boats seized for illegal fishing in Oman

Muscat : More than 30 expats have been arrested and seven unlicensed fishing boats seized for illegal fishing in Al Wusta Governorate, said the Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR).

"The Fisheries Control Team in Al Wusta Governorate, in cooperation with the Coast Guard Unit in Duqm in the Wilayats of Duqm and Mahut, managed to arrest 24 expatriate workers in the Wilayats of Mahut, and arrested 12 expatriate workers in the Wilayats of Duqm while they were practicing fishing without a license,” the Directorate General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Wusta Governorate said.

The team also managed to seize seven unlicensed fishing boats. The legal measures are being taken against the violators.
