Fatma Al Nabhani marches ahead in Bahrain

Muscat: Playing aggressive tennis, Fatma Al Nabhani brushed aside the challenge of Maria Toma of Romania to storm into the quarterfinals of the $15,000 Manama ITF Women’s Circuit tournament in the Bahraini capital on Wednesday.
In a second round match of the singles competition, the Omani star conceded just two games in her straight sets 6-1, 6-1 victory over the unseeded Romanian.
In the quarterfinals, Fatma will take on fourth seeded Slovakian Tereza Mihalikova, who advanced after defeating Swedish qualifier Nathalie Johansson by a similar 6-1, 6-1 margin.
Fatma had began her campaign in the singles on Tuesday with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Gerda Zykute of Lithuania.
Fatma had already reached the quarterfinals of the doubles in the company of Marian Jade Capadicua of the Philippines.
Fatma and Marian, who defeated third seeds Nastja Kolar of Slovenia and Alexandra Riley of the U.S. 6-3, 6-3 in their first round match, were scheduled to play India’s Ashmitha Easwaramurthi and Tea Faber of Croatia in the quarterfinals.
