Muscat: The total production of electricity in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 4.1 per cent till the end of February 2023 to reach 4,611.3 GW per hour compared to 4,431.2 GW during the corresponding period in 2022, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The Governorates of Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah and North Al Batinah, recorded a rise of 17.2 per cent in total electricity production till the end of February 2023 to reach 2,966.7 GW per hour. Meanwhile, electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat recorded a decline of 95.5 per cent to reach 18.8 GW per hour compared to 418 GW per hour during the corresponding period in 2022.
Oman’s net production of electricity till the end of February 2023 reached 4,462.7 GW per hour. The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC).
The highest volume of net electricity production was registered in the Governorates of Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah and North Al Batinah, which stood at 2,870.3 GW per hour compared to the corresponding period in 2022 when it stood at 2,452.3 GW per hour, constituting a rise by 17 per cent.
Further, net electricity production in the Governorates of North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah increased by 7 per cent at the end of February to reach 922 GW per hour compared to 862 GW per hour by the end of February 2022.
On the other hand, water production in the Sultanate of Oman recorded a rise of 2 per cent to reach 79,127.3 million cubic metres by the end of February 2023 compared to 77,577.4 million cubic metres during the corresponding period in 2022.
During the same period, the Governorates of Dhofar and Muscat recorded an increase of 5 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively.
