Activities, exhibition for ‘Oman Day’ to be launched in Palestine

Muscat: Through two agreements between the State of Palestine and the Sultanate of Oman, it was agreed to establish an Omani exhibition in Palestine and a special corner for the State of Palestine in the Omani National Museum.

Today, the National Museum signed two agreements with the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The first stipulated the launching of an exhibition and activities for “Oman Day” in the sisterly State of Palestine, so that the exhibition would be mobile, provided that coordination would take place later between the two parties regarding the venues and timings of the exhibition.

The second agreement provided for the establishment of a special corner for the State of Palestine in the National Museum to highlight its history, civilization and cause, based on the bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Palestine.

The two agreements were signed on the Omani side by His Excellency Jamal bin Hassan Al-Musawi, Secretary General of the National Museum, while on the Palestinian side, Her Excellency Rula Maayah, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of the State of Palestine, signed them on the Palestinian side.

His Excellency Jamal bin Hassan Al-Mousawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, said in a statement to Oman News Agency: The museum seeks, through holding the “Oman Day” exhibition and activities in the State of Palestine, to highlight the historical and moral dimensions and significance of the exhibitions it holds in order to revive the extended relations between the two parties, and to achieve cooperation in The museum and cultural field between them, and based on the museum’s general policies related to participating in highlighting the civilizational, historical, cultural and scientific heritage of the Sultanate of Oman at the regional and international levels.”

He pointed out that the establishment of a corner for the State of Palestine in the National Museum aims to introduce the visitor to the cultural heritage of Palestine throughout the ages, and to confirm the provisions of the museum’s policies by enhancing the level of its international cooperation through the exchange of pieces and exhibitions and providing access to the holdings on a wider scale.

For her part, Her Excellency Rola Maayah, the Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, said in a statement to the Oman News Agency: The two agreements aim to enhance cooperation between the State of Palestine and the Sultanate of Oman in the fields of tourism and cultural heritage, stressing the strength of the relations between the two brotherly countries and the supportive positions adopted by the Sultanate of Oman towards Palestine and its people.

The National Museum also launched the exhibits of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in the Hall of Greatness of Islam, which is represented in a model of the Dome of the Rock chapel, donated by the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat to Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur - may God rest their souls - in 1989, and a round painting of the Dome of the Rock donated by Palestinian President, to Sultan Qaboos in 2001.
