Omani student company recycles marble waste into environmentally friendly products
Al-Omari stated that the company is currently working to increase production.

Muscat: The student company "Reston" from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Nizwa was able to benefit from marble waste by recycling it into environmentally friendly, sustainable, and safe products.

Reem bint Dhaher Al Omari said to Oman News Agency (ONA): “The idea of the company was to take advantage of harmful marble waste, which is present in huge quantities, greatly affects the environment, and is difficult to get rid of. We worked on extracting the chemical components in marble, and producing white bricks and cement.”

She added that recycled products will solve problems that harm the environment by about 25 percent, and that the presence of these products will enhance the concept of local industry.

Al-Omari stated that the company is currently working to increase production and focus on the target group, and expand in this field to reach the largest number of beneficiaries, in addition to the diversity of products. She noted that one of the most prominent difficulties that the company faced was related to financial aspects, and conducting experiments in specialised laboratories.

She stated that the company is currently working on converting the innovative product to prepare it for manufacture directly and commercially, and to establish presence in the local market. This is in addition to good marketing of the product through various means to reach the beneficiaries.

Al-Omari indicated that there are many procedures that the company is working on at the present time, including protecting the intellectual property rights of the product by obtaining them from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, as well as trademark registration.
