Omani students build cooler, water heater that prevents electrocution

Sohar: TTamayuz  Student Company, affiliated to the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Sohar has invented a water heater and cooler that can prevent electrocution. This product is a good alternative to the other gadgets available in the local market.

Khalid bin Saud Al Shaqsi from the student team of the company said that the product is a cylindrical water heater with maximum heating temperature of 65 degrees Celsius and works as a water cooler in summer with minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius.

The gadget will enable consumers to fix the temperature they want, he added.

The water heater includes a system that prevents electric shocks through the installed sensors that disconnect electricity when in use.

There is a future plan to further develop the product by using solar cells for heating water instead of electricity, he added

He said that the invention faced many challenges, the most important of which was the lack of parts and workshop. Since it is an emerging company, we also faced difficulty in providing capital besides lack of support for this project.

He pointed out that the most important step in the project was the building of a specialised work

shop, provision of all parts of the product, and the manufacturing and insulating material that separates the internal and external structure of the product.

He said that the company is currently working on marketing the product through the available channels and participating in various scientific and technological competitions.

He said that there are many steps the company is currently taking, including obtaining the patent for the product intellectual property rights from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
