Oman's Authority launches price monitoring system in commercial centres

Muscat: With the aim of facilitating better shopping experience for consumers, the Sultanate of Oman's Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has launched a new price monitoring system in more than 20 commercial centres.

The Consumer Protection Authority launched on Monday, March 27, 2023, an advanced system the “Price Monitor”, which provides a database and information for more than 750,000 food and luxury products in 21 commercial centres in Muscat Governorate.

He noted that the Authority is currently working to increase the commercial centres in this system in addition to expanding it to include all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

The Price Monitor aims to create a virtual consumer market that matches the aspirations of the beneficiary, and provides a safe consumer market through updated price lists.

The observatory seeks to enable institutional oversight and ensure that the markets are free from any abuses, enable self-monitoring by consumers on commodities and their prices, monitor and follow up the availability and movement of prices of commodities that the consumer wishes to purchase, and prepare a confirmed price list and compare it between a number of commercial centers before going to the chosen centre.

Thus this service will enhance planning and control expenses before purchasing.
