Muscat: Snow fell in Jabal Shams in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate on Monday evening. Snowfall is expected to continue till early morning, an official from Oman Meteorology said.
The official confirmed to Times of Oman that Jabal Shams in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate recorded a temperature of -1 degrees Celsius and high humidity, which led to freezing rain falling this evening, locally known as slate. The mountain was draped with snow and had a wonderful view.
The official from Oman Meteorology also confirmed that Jabal Shams will record a temperature ranging between -2 to 5 degrees Celsius tomorrow, with the possibility of early snow.
The Oman meteorologist said : "The aerial picture shows continued condensation and flow of clouds over parts of the northern governorates, with sporadic rain that may continue during the evening."
On the other hand, several governorates of the Sultanate are witnessing a noticeable drop in temperatures, reaching as low as 3 degrees Celsius in in the Wilayat of Al Kamil W’al Wafi in the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah.
Jabal Shams is considered one of the main tourist destinations with wide fame in the Sultanate of Oman. It is visited by tourists for pristine nature of the mountain, as there are many wild trees that are unique to this mountain, in addition to its distinctive view and fresh air.
Jabal Shams is also considered one of the tallest mountains in the Arab world. Located in Oman, specifically in the Wilayat of Al-Hamra. It forms an extension of the western mountain range known as the Al Hajar Mountains, bordering on the eastern side by the Wilayat of Nizwa, and by the Wilayat of Bahla in the south, from the north by the villages of the South Al Batinah Governorate, and from the western side by the Wilayat of Ibri.
