Muscat: Bangladesh toyed with Sri Lanka as they pumped in 14 goals while Uzbekistan edged past Hong Kong by a solitary goal on the second day of the Men’s Junior AHF Cup Muscat 2023 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Saturday night.
Bangladesh opened the floodgates in the eighth minute and there were goals in all quarters of the game. The first quarter saw them score two goals while six were hammered in the next quarter. There was no stopping the Bangladesh players as they hit five more in the third quarter while the last of the goal came in the final 15 minutes. The scorers were Joy Mohammed (2), Hasan Mohammed (3), Islam Amirul (5), Ali Mohammed (1) and Hossain Mohammed (3).
Islam Amirul has already accumulated six goals in two games played in this tournament. Bangladesh are now on the top of the group and will play against Uzbekistan on January 9, while Sri Lanka will have to win against Hong Kong if they want to stay in the Pool B race.
In the other match, Uzbekistan went into the match high on confidence after their 7-3 win over Sri Lanka in their opener. Both the teams played a hard-fought match and it was only in the 52nd minute that Ismoilov Amur, the 18-year-old, who has already scored five goals in the tournament, slammed in a penalty corner for the team to pick the three points.
Uzbekistan now also have six points in Pool B but trail Bangladesh on goal difference.
