Muscat: The Oman national football team has arrived in Iraq to participate in the Arabian Gulf Cup, which will start on Friday, January 6, 2023.

The delegation of our first national football team has arrived in the Iraqi city of Basra to participate in the 25th edition of the championship, which will start next Friday, and continue until Thursday, January 19, 2023. The official delegation of the national team is headed by Mohsen bin Hamad Al Masrouri, Vice President of the Oman Football Association (OFA).

His Excellency Hamid bin Ahmed Aidaroos, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Iraq, said in a statement upon receiving the delegation at Basra International Airport: "The participation of the first national football team will be distinguished in this exceptional tournament in the city of Basra, and the goal is to crown it."

"The team has many young and experienced players who can provide a great level of competition in the tournament. The organising committee has completed all preparations and facilities to receive the masses," The ambassador added.

The squad, led by Croatian coach Branko Ivankovic, includes: Ahmed Al Rawahi, Mohammad Al Musalmi, Juma Al Habsi, Mahmoud Al Mushaifari, Hareb Al Saadi, Salah Al Yahyaei, Fayez Al Rashidi, Ahmed Al Khamisi, Amjad Al Harthy, Ahmed Al Adawi, Essam Al Subhi, Ahmed Al Matroushi, Ibrahim Al Mukhaini, Ahmed Al Kaabi, Moataz Salah Abd Rabbo, Jamil Al Yahmadi, Musaab Al Maamari, Fahmy Beit Dur , Khaled Al Buraiki, Zahri Al Ghabri, Omar Al Maliki, Arshad Al Alawi and Al Mundhir Al Alawi.

Our national team will play in the first group with Iraq, the host of the tournament, along with Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The second group includes the teams of Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait.

Our team will begin its matches against its Iraqi counterpart in the opening match of the tournament, which is scheduled to be held next Friday at 7:45 PM MCT at Basra International Stadium. The second match will bring together the teams of Yemen and Saudi Arabia at 10:30 PM at the same stadium.
