Muscat: The Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman demanded to impose the most severe penalties on the perpetrators of murder in Oman.
During December 2022, four stabbing incidents occurred tragically in Oman.
The Royal Oman Police arrested on December 7, 2022, a citizen on charges of assaulting a female citizen with a knife in the Wilayat of Seeb, as a result of family disputes between them, which resulted in her death.
On December 12, 2022, the police announced the arrest of a citizen after he stabbed a female citizen with a knife, which led to her death in the Wilayat of Ibri, Al Dhahirah Governorate.
On Saturday, December 17, 2022, the Royal Oman Police arrested a female citizen in the Wilayat of Shinas in the North Al Batinah Governorate, after she assaulted one of her relatives with a knife due to family disputes. The accident resulted in the injury of a person with multiple injuries, as a result of which he was transferred to the hospital. He is in stable condition
The Royal Oman Police published through its official account on Twitter on December 18, 2022 that it had arrested a citizen after he assaulted a female employee with a knife while performing her work in a local bank in Dhofar Governorate. She is in stable condition.
Commenting on the repeated stabbing incidents in the Sultanate of Oman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Khalili, the Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, demanded that the most severe penalties be imposed on those who dared to repeat stabbing and killing incidents.
The bladed weapon includes a group of individual, non-fire, manual weapons that are used for threats and defence sometimes, and maybe a means of killing.
Penalties for stabbing with a white weapon in the Omani Penal Code are as follows :
Article (306) On Assault Against Human Safety chapter two stated that whoever assaults the safety of a person by any means, without intending to kill him, but the assault results in his/her death, shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of no less than three years and not exceeding ten years.
Article (307), said: "Whoever intentionally causes a permanent disability in a human being shall be punished by imprisonment for a period no less than three years and not exceeding seven years. Every injury that permanently causes the severance or disjointedness of an organ, amputation of a part of it, loss or diminishment of its function, or complete or partial loss of a sense, shall be deemed a permanent disability. Every severe disfigurement without a possibility of rectification shall be deemed a disability."
"Anyone who assaults the safety of a person by any means and the assault leads to illness or hinders his ability to undertaken his work for a period of more than 30 days shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of no less than three months and not exceeding three years and a fine of no less than OMR 100 and no more than OMR 1000 , or one of these two penalties," Article (308), of the Omani Penal Code said.
Article (309) indicated that anyone who assaults the safety of a human being by any means and the assault did not result in illness or an inability to work for a period exceeding 30 days shall be punished by imprisonment for a period no less than ten days and not exceeding six months, and a fine no less than OMR 100 and not exceeding OMR 300 , or one of these two penalties.
Article (311) said that whoever causes by his mistake the death of a person shall be punished by imprisonment for a period no less than three months and not exceeding three years, and a fine no less than OMR 300 and not exceeding OMR 1000.
Article (312) of the Omani Penal Code stated that whoever accidentally causes harm to a person and if the harm does not result in illness or absence from work for a period of more than 30 days shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of no less than 10 days and not exceeding three months and a fine of no less than OMR 100 and not more than OMR 300, or one of these two punishments. The penalty shall be imprisonment for a period of not less than three months and not more than six months and a fine of not less than OMR 100 and not more than OMR 500, or one of these two penalties if the illness or disability is for a period of more than 30 days.
