Muscat: Rare images of a female Arabian leopard and her young cub were monitored in the Jabal Samhan Reserve in Dhofar Governorate.
According to the Oman News Agency (ONA) the preliminary results of the large mammal survey project in the Jabal Samhan Reserve in the Dhofar Governorate showed that rare images of the leopard and her cub, which did not exceed a few weeks, were detected, which is a positive indicator for the survival and reproduction of this species in its natural environment.
The Office for Conservation of Environment in the Governorate of Dhofar also monitored other species of the Nubian ibex and the Arabian wolf in the Jabal Samhan Reserve.
The Environment Authority in the Governorate of Dhofar is implementing a project to survey large mammals along the southern slope of the Jabal Samhan Nature Reserve. The project will continue until the end of the year.
The project provides data on the type and number of predators living in the area, through images collected through hidden cameras, and field surveys by the research team due to monitoring the increase in predation of citizens' livestock in the Jabal Samhan Reserve.
The project comes as a continuation of the efforts made by the authority to expand the ranges of environmental knowledge in the environments of large mammals, especially those listed as threatened with extinction, such as the Arabian leopard, in addition to re-evaluating the behavior of these species with human and natural variables.
