Muscat: A court ruling fined a commercial establishment more than OMR 1,000 for violating the Consumer Protection Law.
Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said: "The Ibri Court of First Instance issued a judicial ruling convicting a commercial establishment in Al Dhahirah Governorate for violating the Consumer Protection Law due to its failure to provide the service within the agreed upon period."
CPA added: "The incident relate to the Consumer Protection Department in Al Dhahirah Governorate received a complaint from a consumer, in which he stated that he had contracted with a commercial establishment working in the field of cement products to provide and deliver building materials such as bricks, redmix and concrete sand at an amount of OMR 6,000. The consumer paid the amount to the institution, but it did not abide by the agreement concluded between them, as it delayed in providing the materials, and because he was unable to find a solution with the institution, he went to the management to submit his complaint."
The authority has taken the legal procedures followed in such cases, where the complaint was examined, and due to the failure to reach an amicable solution between the two parties, the complaint file was referred after its completion to the Public Prosecution, which in turn investigated it and referred it to the competent court, which issued a ruling convicting the accused of violating the provisions of the Protection Law. The accused was fined and was asked to return OMR 1,830 to the plaintiff.
The Consumer Protection Authority called on all merchants and suppliers to adhere to the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations, and stresses the need to adhere to transparency, credibility and provide the service properly when dealing with consumers.
