Ministry seeks specification for bottled natural mineral water in Oman

Muscat: Companies producing bottled mineral water should obtain certificates confirming that the content is natural mineral water, said Noriya bint Sulaiman Al Kharousi, director of the specification department at the Directorate General of Specifications and Measurements at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
She said the certificate should be issued by the authorities concerned in the country producing natural mineral water.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has clarified the requirements of standard GCC specification No. 987 on bottled natural mineral water for drinking and not the mineral water sold for other purpose.
Noriya bint said the natural bottled mineral water was clearly distinguished from ordinary bottled drinking water obtained directly from digging of water wells and protected to avoid any contamination that could affect its natural or chemical specifications quality.
