Royal Australian Navy sailor found dead in Oman

Muscat: A Royal Australian Navy sailor has been found dead in an Oman hotel room.

“The ship was in Muscat, Oman on a scheduled port visit and the sailor was on shore leave in the city when he was found unconscious,” said the Australian Department of Defense.

“Despite medical treatment, the sailor could not be revived,” they added.

The sailor was one of the crew members of the navy’s Guided Missile Frigate HMAS Darwin, which was deployed to contribute to Middle Eastern efforts in promoting maritime security and stability in the region by fighting terrorism and performing anti-piracy operations in regional waters around the Middle East.

“The Australian Defense Force Investigative Service is assisting local authorities with investigations. As such, it is not appropriate to provide further details at this time,” said the Department of Defence.
