Muscat: India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, has bought an ultra-luxury Rolls Royce SUV valued at INR 131million (OMR 675,000 or $1.75 million), making it one of the country’s most expensive vehicles.

According to media reports, Ambani is now the proud owner of a Rolls Royce Cullinan, the first SUV brought out by the luxury car designer. Registered by Reliance Industries, of which Mukesh Ambani is both chairman and managing director, the company shelled out a further INR 1.2 million (OMR 16,000) for a custom license plate ending with ‘0001’.

The Cullinan is known for being a luxury vehicle that is extensively customisable, leading to many celebrities buying custom-built versions of the SUV as a collector’s item.

In 2018, ahead of the launch of the Cullinan in Oman, an official from Rolls Royce told Times of Oman just how far people could go to customise their rides.

“The Rolls Royce is a hand-built vehicle, and you can design the colour of the interior, the colour of the exterior, everything,” he said. “If, for example, you have a tree outside your home and want the wood of that tree in your car, we can do it.

“You can print your name on the headrest; you can have any customisation that comes to your mind,” he added. “People need to experience the features of this car because they are unique.”
