Oman’s gross electricity production up 5.7%

Muscat: Gross electricity production in Oman rose 5.7 per cent to 6,552.5 gigawatt (GW) by the end of the first quarter 2017, from 6199.7 GW, while net production rose by 6.8 per cent to 6,308.5 GW, according to the latest update from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Gross production in Muscat fell by 53 per cent to 511.7 GW, while in Dhofar, production rose 4 per cent to 731.7 GW. Musandam’s electricity production went up 2.6 per cent to 53.2 GW, while A'Dakhiliyah’s output declined by 38.8 per cent to 141.1 GW when compared with March 2016.
South and North Al Batinah and A'Dhahirah stepped up their production by 7.1 per cent to 3697.4 GW, while A'Sharqiyah and Al Wusta logged a rise in electricity production at 123 per cent and 11.8 per cent to touch 1335.2 GW and 82.2 GW respectively, compared with the end of March last year.
The Sultanate’s water production increased by 5.2 per cent in the first two months of 2017 to reach 60.194 million cubic metres, compared with 57.206 cubic metres in February 2016.
The Governorate of Muscat saw production decline by 0.7 per cent to 26.06 million cubic metres, compared with the end of February 2016, while the Governorate of Dhofar raised production by 17.4 per cent to 8.6 million cubic metres, compared with February 2016, which stood at 7.3 million cubic metres. Other governorates’ production rose 8 per cent to 25.521 million cubic metres at the end of February against the production of 23,630 million cubic metres in 2016.
