Muscat: For patients who have been infected with the novel coronavirus and have recovered, it is possible to be reinfected if they catch the omicron variant of the virus, a senior health official said on Monday.

Dr. Saif bin Salim Al Abri, Director General of Disease Surveillance and Control at the Ministry of Health, said at a press conference of the Supreme Committee, “The omicron variant can infect previously infected persons.”

The Committee urged everyone to take vaccines on time and to opt for the booster/third dose as it increases immunity by up to 75 per cent.

“Studies show that two doses of vaccines give around 22 per cent immunity against the omicron variant while it increases upto 75 per cent with the third dose,” said Mr. Bader bin Saif Al Rawahi, Director of Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health.
