Covid-19: Third dose helps against new variants

Muscat: The Ministry of Health has confirmed that a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine helps in addressing new mutated strains of the coronavirus. The Pfizer vaccine is approved for the third dose in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement: “We need the third dose of the vaccine to help those who suffer from weak immunity due to some diseases or are taking immunosuppressive drugs, to increase their antibodies, it helps to raise immunity after its decline. According to research data, it has been proven that there is a decline in the level of immunity formed by vaccines within 6 months, which indicates the need to receive booster doses and this helps in addressing the new mutated strains of the coronavirus (Covid-19).”

The Ministry mentioned that the target groups for the third dose are: “The vaccination process begins with the third dose for those who are 18 years of age and over who have received two doses of the vaccine and the third dose is given 3 months after receiving the second dose.”
