Nizma hospital uses ECMO technology to treat acute pneumonia

Muscat: For the first time in Nizwa Hospital, a medical team has succeeded in treating a patient using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technology.

"For the first time in Nizwa Hospital, a medical team from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) specialised in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technology, and in cooperation with the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Nizwa Hospital, was able to use this technology to treat a patient suffering from acute pneumonia syndrome associated with influenza infection," the Directorate General of Health Services in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate said in a statement.
