Muscat: A medical team specialising in breast tumor surgeries, correction and restoration at the Royal Hospital was able to perform corrective surgery after excision of a cancerous tumor by a new, rare and innovative method called the 'collateral intercostal artery perforation' (LICAP).

Dr. Ibrahim bin Mubarak Al-Waeli, consultant of breast oncology and plastic surgery at the Department of Surgery at the Royal Hospital, told the Oman News Agency: “This method is new in the field of plastic surgery after breast surgery, where a fatty skin patch is rotated from one place to another after being lifted with a small artery. It is intended to survive, after which it is installed and shaped in the new place to give the desired final shape.”

He added, "This method is one of the best and ideal solutions when removing a large part of the breast volume, from 40 to 50 per cent of the total breast volume, and at the same time avoiding larger reconstructive operations."
