College of Pharmacy, National University of Science and Technology holds an inaugural program for MSc. Clinical Pharmacy

College of Pharmacy, National University of Science and Technology got approval from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Higher Education Research and Innovation to start MSc. in Clinical Pharmacy. Under the Patronage of H.E. Dr. Fatma Mohammed Al-Ajmi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Health for Administrative, Financial & Planning Affairs, The University held an inaugural program that was organized at University’s Headquarters on 16th November, 2021. Dr. Ali Al Bimani, Vice-Chancellor of NU received the chief guest. The program was attended by members of NU Executives, officials from Government and private sectors, Faculty and staff at NU.

Dean of College Dr. Khalid Al Balushi welcomed the guests which was followed by the opening remarks by Vice-Chancellor of the NU, Dr. Ali Al Bimani. They highlighted the importance of this program and how it can help the country to improve the patient care services through optimum medication use and management. Prof. Alka Ahuja, Chair of Pharmacy Program gave the details of the program mentioning the objectives and scope of the well - designed courses which would help in improved patient and medication safety. The program is designed in both regular and part time mode to help working professionals to pursue higher education. The courses taught would include core subjects including Clinical Pharmacy Practice, Advanced therapeutics, Clinical Pharmacokinetics, cancer chemotherapy etc. Clinical rotation to various hospital specialty departments and Research courses will help the students to carry out Clinical Research  and training.

Ph. Intisar Al Riyami, an alumni of the College of Pharmacy and presently serving as a Clinical Pharmacist at SQU Hospital highlighted about the Clinical Pharmacist services in the hospital settings and how it has helped to improve the Pharmaceutical care services.

College of Pharmacy at NU has academic partnership with West Virginia University, USA and a message from their Head of Clinical Pharmacy further stressed the importance of this meaningful academic partnership. The NU Executives honored the Chief guest and speaker and thanked them for gracing the occasion. Prof. KPR, Acting Dean, Postgraduate Studies and Research at NU thanked the guests and congratulated the College of Pharmacy for this achievement which will help to align with Oman vision 2040 and build a healthy society.
