Breeders urged to look out for illnesses among camels

Muscat: Camel breeders have been urged to communicate with veterinary clinics in the event that they notice any symptoms of illness, in order to reduce the sudden death of camels in the Governorate of Dhofar.

A team from the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, with the participation of Sultan Qaboos University and the Veterinary Services in the Affairs of the Royal Court, has completed the procedures for investigating the causes of sudden camel deaths in the Governorate of Dhofar by drawing samples of fodder, water and blood for laboratory analysis.

Camel breeders need to follow veterinarians’ instructions on the optimal use of veterinary medicines.

Breeders have been urged to isolate sick animals from healthy ones, and buy feed from reliable and known sources, taking into account the nutritional needs of each category of animals according to their age and physiological condition.
