MSX index ends marginally lower

MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 4,059.26 points, down 0.39 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended up by 0.39 per cent at 556.10 points.

Takaful Oman was the top gainer, up by 5.56 per cent, while Dhofar Generating, down 9.41 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of OIFC was the most active in terms of the number of shares traded as well as in terms of turnover.

A total number of 587 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR1.9 million, with more than 11.9 million shares changing hands. Out of 43 traded securities, 9 advanced, 15 declined and 19 remained unchanged. At the session close, foreign investors were net sellers for OMR449,000 while Local investors were net buyers for OMR417,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR33,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,397 points, up 0.11 per cent. Prices of Oman & Emirates Holding, Oman United Insurance, Muscat Finance, Ominvest and Takaful Oman were up 4.29 per cent, 2.42 per cent, 1.69 per cent, 1.30 per cent and 1.05 per cent respectively. United Finance, Al Omaniya Financial Services, Taageer Finance, HSBC Bank Oman and Al Anwar Investment were down 1.72 per cent, 1.69 per cent, 1.32 per cent, 1.08 per cent and 1.00 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 6,179.24 points, down 0.23 per cent. Prices of NAPI and Al Anwar Ceramics were up 7.63 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively. Al Maha Ceramics, Voltamp Energy and Jazeera Steel Product were down 2.64 per cent, 1.60 per cent and 1.02 per cent respectively.

Services Index down by 0.54 per cent before closing at 1,659.04 points. Ooredoo was the only gainer by 0.53 per cent. Dhofar Generating, Al Batinah Power, Sembcorp Salalah, Al Jazeera Services and Omantel were down 5.19 per cent, 1.92 per cent, 1.19 per cent, 1.10 per cent and 1.08 per cent respectively.
