Muscat: The employees of Sohar Steel Company will not be laid off and will continue their work in the company, General Federation of Oman Workers said in a statement.

"Today, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labour, headed by His Excellency Sheikh Nasr bin Amer Al Hosani, the Undersecretary for Labour, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Federation of Oman Workers and the owners of Sohar Steel Company, to discuss the issue of layoffs for Sohar Steel workers. The meeting resulted in the non-dismissal of workers and their continuation of their work," the Federation said in a statement.

The Ministry of Labour issued a statement on Sunday evening and said, "As soon as the Ministry became aware of Sohar Steel's intention, a meeting was held in coordination with the concerned parties in the Sohar Steel Company, the General Federation of the Sultanate’s Workers, and the Company’s Workers’ Union, at the office of His Excellency the Undersecretary for Labour.”

“During the meeting, the financial conditions that the company is going through were identified, and it was agreed to set a specific time plan to address these situations, provided that the company maintains its national workforce and retracts the notice of termination of service that was sent to a number of the company’s employees,” the Ministry added.
