Muscat: The Honourable Lady, Spouse of His Majesty the Sultan, visited the Craft Training Centre in Royal Court Affairs in the Wilayat of Salalah.

Yesterday, the Honourable Lady visited the Craft Training Centre of the Schools Department in the Affairs of the Royal Court in the Wilayat of Salalah in the Governorate of Dhofar. It is a training centre for students of the Sultan Qaboos Schools in Salalah, as it works to qualify male and female students in the field of craft production for which the governorate is famous.

Upon her arrival at the centre, she listened to an explanation about the centre, why it was established and the development since then, under the directives of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur. The centre's objective is to strengthen the students' relationship with their heritage and to teach them traditional handicraft.

The Honourable Lady undertook a tour of the centre’s facilities, starting from the Rabat hall, which has a number of traditional textiles famous in the wilayats of Dhofar Governorate. These include the manufacture of takiyas of all kinds and sewing the Dhofari dress and the Omani sleeve.

The Honourable Lady was also briefed on the progress of the female students and she also saw some of their work and spoke to them.

In the Hamran hall, the Honourable Lady was briefed on the palm trees that are being produced and students are trained in them at the centre, where a number of household appliances such as fans are produced. Some products can be used for decoration.

The Honourable Lady visited the Khanjar Hall, which is the hall designated for training students to make Omani khanjar.

The Honourable Lady praised the exhibits and lauded the efforts made to preserve these crafts and Omani heritage.
