Official Liverpool FC Supporters Club Of Oman celebrates 10th anniversary
Oman Reds members also get to go to Anfield for a black tie dinner with LFC legends every year
Muscat: Saturday coincided with the 10th Anniversary of Oman’s oldest official football supporters club, Oman Reds, the Official Liverpool FC Supporters Club in Oman.
The fan group has gone from strength to strength since starting with just 2 friends meeting at a house to watch the games and has now expanded to over 620 members, has English and Arabic sections, and prior to the ongoing pandemic the supporters club met at two different venues on match days.
The Oman Reds do not only gather to watch games together. In 2013, fans travelled to Liverpool and played on the pitch at Anfield against other international supporters’ clubs.
In 2019 they travelled to Qatar for the Club World Cup and witnessed Liverpool FC winning it for the first time. Members can also get access to match day tickets and the club has got tickets to various matches for their members throughout the past seasons.
Oman Reds members also get to go to Anfield for a black tie dinner with LFC legends every year. The group has also hosted ex-LFC players in Muscat such as Alan Kennedy, who scored the winning goals in 2 European cup finals and Gary McAllister who scored an unforgettable goal against Everton in the Merseyside derby vs Everton.
“It has been an amazing decade for the Official Liverpool FC Supporters Club in Oman. As the first Official Supporters Club of a European football club in the Sultanate; we paved the way for the founding of other European football team’s official supporters’ clubs in the country. Our members are the cornerstone of our success. There are no fans like Liverpool FC fans anywhere in the world. We support our team through thick and thin and I’m so proud to call myself a Liverpool fan.” said Adam Al Jabry, Club Secretary of the Oman Reds.
Al Jabry added: “A special thank you has to go out to our founder Nabil ‘Nabs’ Al Busaidi for giving all Liverpool FC fans in Oman a home and a sense of pride and belonging. It was his vision of founding an Official Supporters Club that brought us all together”
The committee continues to work on many exciting initiatives for the Oman Reds this season. It is free to join the Official Liverpool Supporters Club in Oman and if you would like to join you can message the committee through ‘Oman Reds’ on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat or by emailing them on omanreds@gmail.com
It has been and exciting few years to be a Liverpool FC fan and the group looks set to grow even more, with many factors boosting their popularity; the proactivity of the supporters club, the charismatic Jurgen Klopp, attractive attacking play from the team, winning the Champions League, Super Cup, Premier League and Club World cup in recent years and of course, the Arabian hero, Mohammad Salah.
It is worth noting that during the ongoing pandemic and in adherence with all the precautionary measures in place the Official Liverpool FC Supporters Club in Oman ceased all match day gatherings; opting instead to have them remotely via zoom and with everyone safe in their homes.
