Muscat: Oman topped the Arab countries in the average real wage annual growth in 2016.
It also got the ninth place globally, according to a report of the global wage for 2016 by the International Labour Organisation. A report published by the British “Touch Stone” website said that the global Wages Report for 2016 showed that the average real wage annual growth in Oman was 7.2 per cent between 2008 and 2015, a period that followed the global financial crisis.
Egypt came second in the Arab world with an average growth rate of 6.8 per cent and Saudi Arabia in the third place with an average growth of 6.2 per cent. Tajikistan topped the world in terms of growth of annual wages with an average of 14.4 per cent, followed by Zambia with 12.1 per cent, while Sri Lanka and Jamaica came at the bottom in terms of average wages that fell by 4.2 per cent, followed by Greece, with a decline of 3.6 per cent.
The average wage annual growth in Britain fell by 1 per cent, while it rose in Turkey by 4 per cent and China by 9 per cent.
