Barka: History of Science Centre (HSC) at the German University of Technology (GUtech) in Oman is one of the important educational and cultural centres that showcases the cultural contributions and human communication for the nations.
The establishment of HSC comes within the recognition of Islamic history and the achievements of the early Muslim scholars.
GUtech has shown due concern and interest in establishment of an educational centre to study the extent to which early Muslim scholars have benefited from earlier civilizations and their impacts on new civilizations and modern sciences. The centre was established under the name “History of Science Centre” as it is concerned with the development of applied sciences from the Greek Classic Era to the Era of Islam.
It is the first centre for the history of Islamic sciences which commits to the established criteria and contributes to introduction of the history of Islamic sciences in a clear and methodological manner.
HSC clearly depicts the findings of mathematical sciences, astronomy, mechanics, statics, geography.. etc during the golden era of Islamic civilization. The items on display at HSC shows the scientific methods Muslim scholars have used for their achievements.
A space has been allocated at the first floor of HSC for a library concerned with the history of sciences and the upper floor is allocated for the items on display in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, mechanics, statics and dynamics, mathematical geography and other fields.
