MSX index ends marginally lower

MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 4,022.87 points, down 0.84 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended down 1.12 per cent at 574.80 points.

Muscat Insurance, up 10.00 per cent, was the top gainer while Oman Chlorine, down 10.00 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of United Finance were the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Al Anwar Ceramic was the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 640 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR2 million, with more than 12.6 million shares changing hands. Out of 49 traded stocks, 6 advanced, 24 declined and 19 remained unchanged. At the session close, Domestic investors were net buyers for OMR179,000 while GCC & Arab investors were net sellers for OMR165,000 followed by foreign investors for OMR14,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,377.19 points, down 0.99 per cent.  Muscat Insurance, Oman & Qatar Insurance and Al Anwar Investment were up 10.00 per cent, 1.50 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively. Dhofar Insurance, Arabia Falcon Insurance, United Finance, Al Omaniya Financials Services and Oman & Emirates Holding were down 7.39 per cent, 4.92 per cent, 3.33 per cent, 3.20 per cent and 3.13 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 5,801.38 points, down 1.19 per cent. Galfar Engineering and Al Anwar Ceramic were up 1.23 per cent and 0.43 per cent respectively. Oman Chlorine, Oman Cables Industry, Oman Cement, Jazeera Steel Product and Raysut Cement were down 10.00 per cent, 4.13 per cent, 2.72 per cent, 2.05 per cent and 1.69 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 0.53 per cent before closing at 1,699.35 points. Dhofar Generating is the gainer by 0.71 per cent. Oman Education Training, Oman Investment & Financials, Renaissance Service and Al Jazeera Services were down 9.09 per cent, 2.68 per cent, 2.39 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively.
