Muscat: People in Oman took to their rooftops and selected the best outdoor areas from where they could catch a glimpse of the supermoon on Tuesday.

Many were happy to experience the first supermoon of the year, and attached great importance to it, because of it occurring during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

“We live by the beach in Azaiba so we thought it would be a good idea to watch it from near there, because it offers us a good view of the horizon without any distractions,” said Maimoona Tehreem.

“My husband and I went to watch the moon straight after Maghrib prayers,” she added.

“It was amazing to see this moon, with its pink hue, surrounded by a blue sky. I wish we could’ve watched it for longer, but our view was soon obstructed by clouds so we could only watch it for 10 minutes,” she added.

Ibrahim Al Ajmi, from Baushar, took his family to the roof of his home to watch the phenomenon.
“My youngest daughter is interested in astronomy and all things space-related, so this was a good time for all of us to learn more about her interests,” he said.

“Ramadan is after all a time for family to get together, so this was a great way to reinforce the spirit of this time.”

Photographer Sanak Roy Choudhury was among those who sought a good spot to take some pictures of the super moon.

His efforts to take the perfect picture paid off around 7 pm on Tuesday, when he took an amazing snap of the moon, featuring the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in the foreground, and the Mohammed Al Ameen mosque behind it. Student Elaine Theresa, who studies at Indian School Wadi Kabir, said the chance to watch the supermoon was unmissable.
