Muscat: There are more than 140,000 jobs in the Sultanate where expatriate workers can be replaced by citizens, in both the public and private sectors, H.E. Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba’owain, the Minister of Labour said on Tuesday.
He said in interview with Oman TV: “Currently, there are 1,500,000 expatriate workers in Oman and 10 per cent can be replaced with Omani employees. The remaining jobs are for low paying positions and we cannot pressure employers to replace the rest. With this 10 per cent, we have around 140,000 jobs to 180,000 job opportunities for Omani citizens. The process requires training and some jobs need experience. We will work hard to achieve this goal.”
The Minister also said that development of Omani Human Resources was a challenging task and said, “Everyone must realise that the Ministry is not concerned with employment, but it is only to regulate the public and private sector. We put pressure on these sectors for Omanisation and we are ready to provide any qualification or training for the same.”
